2003 Magaliesberg Advisory Committee established. Advises the government on development applications and has started preparing a management policy for the MPNE (Magaliesberg Protected Natural Environment.). The MPA provides grassroots input to the Committee.
1994 - 2002 MPA lobbies for appointment of new Management Committee by Gauteng and North West Provinces
1994 Magaliesberg Declared a Protected Natural Area
1987 - 1994 Management Committee re-convened with better representation and greater powers.  MPA members participate on the Management Committee controlling proposed developments, settlement of boundaries and other issues.
1982 New Environment Conservation Act passed which includes some of MPA's recommendations
1981 Ad hoc Management Committee formed for the Nature Area with MPA represented
1980 MPA helps resolve impasse between landowners, conservationists and provincial authorities.  MPA participates in commission to upgrade environmental law.
1978 MPA recommends a board of management for the Nature Area rather then expropriation and provincial control.
1977 MPA objects to silica mining in Castle Gorge and activities are frozen.  Magaliesberg proclaimed a Nature Area.  Landowners form an association to represent their interests.
1976 Transvaal Province announces intention to expropriate Magaliesberg as a nature reserve.  Landowners object.
1975 Environmental Planning Act provides for legal protection for proclaimed "Natural Areas".  Magaliesberg Protection Association is founded to facilitate the proclamation of the Magaliesberg under the new law.
1974 James Clarke of The Star starts CARE campaign to conserve the Magaliesberg.  Mountain Club of SA publishes report:  "The preservation of the Magaliesberg".
1960 - 1974 Magaliesberg becomes a popular recreational destination.  Quarrying and silica mining begins.  Mountain Club of SA monitors increasing environmental degradation.
